The R.L. Wurz Company was founded by Ray L. Wurz in 1933, and was instrumental in the development of Architectural Porcelain on Steel panels and Glass Fabrication for applications in the construction industry. His revolutionary concept soon became the standard for exterior panel design during the 1930s and 1940s. This original design, utilized in the building of service stations, can still be seen today in many buildings throughout Ohio.
After World War II, the company grew to become one of the largest installers of architectural panel systems in the Midwest. During this period, the company began selling General Electric sealants and soon became a significant supplier of construction sealants in the Midwest.
The Company continued to evolve into one of Ohio’s premier construction and restoration products distributors. The materials supplied through the RL Wurz Company from manufacturers such as Dow-Corning, BASF, Tremco, Citadel Architectural Panels, CIM and Prosoco are the best in the industry. Additionally, we provide many complimentary products to help the professional in their trade.
In 1979, the Wurz family sold the business to Tom Wurz (Ray’s son) and Ed Kammerer, who continued to operate the Company until 2010. The Company was instrumental in supplying a variety of materials used in new construction and restoration throughout Ohio including The Ascent at Roebling’s Bridge, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland Stadium and the new Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
In 2010, Tom Lavelle purchased the company from Ed and Tom and while continuing to provide our customers with excellent products, value and technical competence injected a new vitality that brought immediate response. In 2010 we experienced significant growth by improved relationships with our customers and vendors. Included in this was the addition of Mapei Concrete Restoration products, a leader in concrete repair products and recognized throughout the world for their technological superiority.
Today, the RL Wurz Company continues as the premier supplier of sealants, cleaning and restoration materials, architectural panels and concrete restoration products in the State of Ohio.
